Bethpage, N.Y. – The NYIT softball program was able to squeeze in a morning of community service on Sunday, February 21 before starting their 2016 campaign, when they assisted in cookie distribution for the Girl Scouts of America.
At the King Cullen Headquarters in Bethpage, members of the team were in charge of sorting and packing up vehicles with boxes of cookies to their respective troop leaders. The Bears worked all morning in packing over 200 vehicles with orders of Girl Scout cookies, ranging from Thin Mints to Tagalongs, for the various troops that are located in Nassau County.
“On behalf of the team I think we all felt good after being able to help out at the cookie distribution,” commented senior softball player and Student Athlete Advisory Committee President, Samantha Basile. “The Girl Scouts of America is a program that instills so many good values into young girls that we were happy to be of assistance on Sunday.”
The Blue and Gold travel to Bowie, Maryland on Saturday, February 27 for opening day, when they take on Bowie State and Bloomfield College at the Lady Bulldogs Field. Follow the NYIT Softball team on twitter and instagram for behind-the-scenes coverge of the upcoming season.
