On Saturday, April 18, the Kellenberg Varsity Softball team held its annual benefit game at Bob Klein Field at Skelos Athletics Complex in Rockville Centre. This year the game was held to benefit the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Multiple Myeloma is a cancer that affects the blood and skeletal systems, for which there is not yet a cure. Three years ago, coach Steven Piorkowski of Bayside High School Softball and father of Kellenberg senior, Katherine, was diagnosed with the disease. Sadly, earlier this year Coach Piorkowski passed away. The Kellenberg Varsity Softball team was able to raise $7,002.00 from this year’s benefit game, which was given directly to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. The team would like to thank all those present for the benefit game and all those who contributed to the cause.
