About:
The Longwood JV Girls Soccer team is using their platform this season to raise awareness for causes that matter, showing what it means to play with both purpose and compassion.
On Friday, October 10, the team dedicated their game to Morgan’s Message, a nonprofit organization working to break the stigma surrounding mental health in athletics. Founded in memory of Morgan Rodgers, who tragically lost her life to suicide in 2019, Morgan’s Message empowers student-athletes to treat mental health with the same care and importance as physical health. Before kickoff, Longwood athletes delivered a heartfelt speech to the crowd, sharing the importance of prioritizing mental well-being and reminding others that no one should struggle alone.
Just days later, on October 16, the team continued their commitment to community impact by hosting a Pink Out Kicks for Cancer Game. Dressed in pink, players honored those affected by breast cancer while raising awareness for early detection and research. Each athlete contributed a homemade pink dessert to create a table full of treats for spectators to enjoy during the game. The team also sold raffle tickets, with all proceeds donated to breast cancer research.
Through both events, Longwood’s student-athletes demonstrated leadership, empathy, and unity—proving that teamwork extends far beyond the field. Their efforts not only supported meaningful causes but also inspired other young athletes to take a stand and make a difference in their communities.
