About:
The Nassau Interscholastic Community Events (NICE) program once again showcased the spirit of service and teamwork among Section VIII cheerleaders this season. Under the leadership of Coach Thompson, the cheerleaders participated in multiple community initiatives that made a meaningful impact both locally and beyond.
One of their major projects this year was “Pennies for Pets,” an effort to collect spare change to benefit the North Shore Animal League. Together, the cheerleaders raised an impressive $1,133.50, which they proudly presented at the Wag and Walk event hosted by the North Shore Animal League. The athletes helped kick off the walk, celebrating their contribution to supporting animals in need and the volunteers who care for them.
At the same time, several other Nassau cheer teams were at Jones Beach, cheering on participants in the annual Breast Cancer Walk. These teams sold t-shirts and pink merchandise to raise funds and awareness, collecting approximately $5,000 for the cause.
Each season, NICE cheerleaders participate in at least two community events, and their efforts have included school supply drives for Community Solidarity, food drives for the Veterans Food Pantry, assembling breakfast bags for the Ronald McDonald House, and raising funds for breast cancer awareness, among many others.
Through these projects, the Section VIII cheerleaders continue to demonstrate that their dedication extends far beyond the sidelines—spreading kindness, compassion, and community pride with every event they take on.
