Leadership and service were on full display as the Marshfield Football team came together to make a difference in their community.
Under the direction of Captain Nate McGowan, a group of players spent their weekend morning assembling donation bags to support the Marshfield Food Pantry. Their efforts provided much-needed assistance to local families and reflected the true spirit of teamwork—both on and off the field.
When Coach Arouca encouraged his captains to explore community service opportunities, Nate reached out to a family friend who coordinates A Simple Gesture, a program dedicated to providing food to families in need throughout the community. Working together, the captains organized the team’s involvement in the effort.
The program distributes reusable grocery bags to local households willing to donate groceries. Each bag includes a tag listing the items most needed by the food pantry—such as peanut butter, cereal, and bread—along with pickup instructions.
To prepare for this year’s Donation Day, the student-athletes partnered with Mr. Battis to secure space at the school and volunteered an hour to switch out all the tags on the bags. On Sunday, the team helped collect the filled bags, load boxes of donated food into the pantry’s truck, and assist with unloading and organizing the donations.
Donation Day was a great success, with a strong turnout of both varsity and freshman players lending a hand, even as the JV team competed that day. Together, the players demonstrated leadership, compassion, and a deep sense of community pride.
By supporting A Simple Gesture, the Marshfield Football team proved that teamwork extends far beyond the playing field—showing what it truly means to lead by example and make a lasting impact in their community.
