About:
The Westonka High School National Honor Society continues a long-standing tradition of service through its partnership with Memorial Blood Centers—an effort that began in 1998 with a single annual blood drive and expanded to biannual events in 2016. After a brief decline in participation during the COVID years, donations have steadily climbed, culminating in a record-breaking Fall Blood Drive in 2024, the chapter’s most successful since 2010.
The momentum continued at the Fall Blood Drive on November 6, 2025, where NHS members played a vital role in ensuring the event’s success. Sixteen student volunteers helped facilitate the drive, while nine students managed donor registration and recruitment throughout lunch periods— including time spent boosting enthusiasm in the beloved “ABO Joe” mascot costume. An additional four students led a robust promotional campaign through videos, posters, and school-wide messaging. Invitations to participate were also shared across local community pages, extending outreach well beyond the high school.
The results speak for themselves. The chapter surpassed its collection goal, with approximately two-thirds of donors being Westonka High School students—many of them first-time donors—and the remaining one-third representing supportive community members. Hosting the drive at the Westonka Activity Center, conveniently located next to the high school, helped strengthen the connection between students and the broader community through this shared life-saving effort.
Looking ahead, the Westonka NHS chapter plans to deepen its educational outreach, encouraging more students and residents to understand the impact and accessibility of blood donation as a meaningful act of service.
This commitment reflects the chapter’s dedication to the four pillars of the National Honor Society: Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service. In addition to blood drives, members lead initiatives such as Haunt for Hunger, which raises food and funds for WeCAN, a nonprofit supporting local families, and Roadside Clean-Ups, where students maintain a two-mile Adopt-a-Highway segment within the district.
Since September 6, members have already recorded 312 independent volunteer hours, on top of their service through chapter-led events—demonstrating a powerful and ongoing commitment to making a difference in their community.
