About:
On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the 6th Annual “In Memory of Daniela Conte” Blood Drive was held at St. Matthew’s Church in Dix Hills, bringing community members together in support of a truly lifesaving cause. The event drew 61 donors, resulting in 54 successful blood donations that will help provide critical support to patients in need.
Among the participants, four donors took part in the Alyx Double Red Blood Cell donation program, which counts as two donations each, significantly increasing the overall impact of the drive. In addition, 10 of the registered donors were first-time donors, either giving blood for the first time ever or making their first donation through the New York Blood Center. Inspiring new donors to step forward is a meaningful achievement and helps strengthen the future of blood donation efforts.
A major highlight of the event was the leadership shown by three dedicated high school student-athletes who helped plan and organize the drive over several weeks leading up to the event. Their commitment, organization, and enthusiasm helped ensure the day ran smoothly while creating a welcoming and supportive environment for every donor.
The student leaders included:
-
Jackson Amiruddin, Sanford H. Calhoun High School – Volleyball
-
Christopher Morici, Commack High School – Varsity Soccer
-
Ava Ray, Half Hollow Hills West High School – Field Hockey
Through their efforts and the generosity of donors, the blood drive is estimated to positively impact up to 186 lives, demonstrating the powerful difference youth leadership and community collaboration can make.
Organizing a blood drive requires creativity, teamwork, and compassion. Thanks to the dedication of student organizers, volunteers, and community members, this year’s event was not only a success but also a meaningful tribute to Daniela Conte’s legacy. The drive served as a powerful reminder that when young leaders take initiative, even one day of service can create lasting impact for individuals and families throughout the region.
