About:
Students from Bayport-Blue Point High School recently shared the spirit of Valentine’s Day by supporting children living in shelters across Long Island through a thoughtful service initiative led by the school’s National Honor Society.
Students collected donations from the high school community and assembled 70 Valentine’s Day book boxes designed to bring comfort and joy to children in need. Each box included a new children’s book, a healthy snack, water or a juice box, and fun items such as toys and stickers.
The project was organized under the guidance of the National Honor Society adviser, Mrs. Peterson, and made possible by a partnership with Waverly Elementary School in the Sachem Central School District. This marks the second consecutive year the schools have collaborated on the initiative, helping expand the project’s reach and impact.
The book boxes will be distributed to several local organizations and shelters supporting families in need, including Brighter Tomorrows, Long Island Lighthouse Mission, Help Suffolk, Lake House, Community Housing Innovations, and Breath of Life Center.
Through this project, students demonstrated how small acts of kindness can create meaningful moments for children facing difficult circumstances. By combining generosity, teamwork, and compassion, the National Honor Society members at Bayport-Blue Point High School continue to make a positive impact in their community.
