About:
The North Rockland Varsity Ice Hockey team, in collaboration with the Clarkstown hockey program, recently hosted a powerful Ice Hockey Fights Cancer event at Sport-O-Rama, bringing together athletes, families, and community members in support of the fight against cancer.
Before the game began, the evening was marked by an emotional honorary puck drop featuring Jelien, a fourth-grade childhood cancer survivor from Willow Grove Elementary School, alongside Clarkstown South senior Tommy Ryan, who has been courageously battling leukemia over the past year. Their presence set the tone for a night centered on strength, resilience, and community unity.
Throughout the rink, purple and pink served as visible reminders of the cause — from jerseys and sticks to hats and decorations — creating a powerful atmosphere of support and awareness. Both school communities came together in a meaningful show of solidarity, demonstrating how athletics can serve as a platform for compassion and impact beyond competition.
Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of all who attended, the event successfully raised more than $1,000 for the American Cancer Society, helping to fund critical research and support services for individuals and families affected by cancer.
Events like Ice Hockey Fights Cancer highlight the leadership and character of student-athletes, who continue to use their voices and visibility to make a difference. North Rockland and Clarkstown’s collaborative effort stands as an inspiring example of how sports can unite communities around a shared mission of hope and support.
