The Schodack Central School District community once again demonstrated the power of teamwork and generosity during its highly anticipated annual Hoops Against Hunger event, held on Friday, March 13, 2026, in the Maple Hill Gym.
The popular charity basketball game brought together teachers, administrators, staff, students, and local residents for an evening filled with friendly competition and meaningful community impact. Two teams made up of Schodack CSD faculty and staff faced off on the court, with a packed gym of supporters cheering them on, creating an energetic and uplifting atmosphere.
Supporting Families Through The Anchor Food Pantry
More than just a night of basketball, Hoops Against Hunger continues to serve as an important effort to support families in need. Admission to the event included a small entry fee or a canned food donation, with all proceeds and collected food benefiting The Anchor Food Pantry in Castleton.
Thanks to the generosity of the Schodack community, this year’s event raised a record-breaking $5,672.83, along with a significant number of food donations. Representatives from The Anchor Food Pantry expressed deep gratitude for the continued support, noting that the impact extends far beyond the financial contribution—it represents a community coming together to care for one another.
Student Leadership Drives the Event
Students played a central role in making the evening a success. Maple Hill senior basketball players stepped into leadership roles as team coaches, while junior players served as game officials. Their involvement provided valuable opportunities to build leadership skills, organize event logistics, and contribute to a cause that directly benefits their community.
In addition to the game, attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including a concessions stand, a 50/50 raffle, and halftime games for all ages, helping create a fun and inclusive environment for families and fans.
A Tradition That Reflects Community Spirit
Year after year, Hoops Against Hunger continues to grow in both participation and impact. While the Blue Team claimed the on-court victory in another spirited matchup, the true success of the evening was measured by the collective effort of everyone who volunteered, donated, organized, and showed their support.
From students and educators to community members working behind the scenes, the event showcased the very best of what Schodack Central School District represents—leadership, service, and a shared commitment to helping others.
By turning school spirit into meaningful action, Hoops Against Hunger remains a powerful example of how athletics and community engagement can come together to make a lasting difference.
