About:
The Port Washington Girls Varsity Softball team is using its platform to support an important cause and help spark meaningful conversations surrounding student-athlete mental health.
In partnership with Morgan’s Message, the team recently announced its upcoming dedication game aimed at raising awareness and helping end the stigma surrounding mental health in sports. Through handmade posters, team advocacy, and community engagement, the athletes are working to remind others that mental wellness is just as important as physical health.
Morgan’s Message, founded in memory of student-athlete Morgan Rodgers, encourages open conversations around mental health and works to eliminate the stigma that often prevents athletes from seeking help. By participating in this initiative, Port Washington Softball is helping continue that mission while creating a supportive environment for teammates, students, and the broader community.
The team’s “Posters with a Purpose” campaign highlights the leadership and compassion of the student-athletes, who are using their voices and visibility to encourage awareness, connection, and support. Their dedication game serves as more than just a competition on the field—it is an opportunity to unite the community around an issue that impacts countless students and athletes.
Initiatives like this demonstrate the growing role athletics can play in supporting mental wellness and fostering a culture where asking for help is seen as a strength.
Through their efforts, the Port Washington Girls Varsity Softball team is showing that student-athletes can make a powerful impact far beyond the game by leading conversations that matter and supporting causes that help others feel seen, heard, and supported.
