About:
Byron High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter turned a Sunday afternoon into an opportunity to make a difference, organizing a community canned food drive to support the Byron Food Pantry.
On Sunday, November 1, 2026, FCCLA members headed out into the Byron community from noon to 2 p.m., collecting canned food donations to help local individuals and families facing food insecurity.
Students Take Action to Fight Hunger
The Byron FCCLA Canned Food Drive encouraged community members to contribute nonexpired canned food items, providing an opportunity for residents to support neighbors in need.
Rather than simply collecting donations at school, FCCLA students took their efforts directly into the community, dedicating their Sunday afternoon to gathering food for the local pantry.
The initiative demonstrated how young people can take an active role in addressing community needs while inspiring others to give back.
Building Leadership Through Community Service
FCCLA is a national student organization that helps young people develop leadership skills through projects focused on families, careers, and communities.
Through the canned food drive, Byron students put those values into action by organizing a meaningful service project that brought together students and community supporters.
The initiative provided students with opportunities to strengthen their teamwork, communication, and leadership skills while making a positive difference in their hometown.
