About:
Northern Arizona University, a member of the Big Sky Conference, sponsors 15 NCAA Division I level athletic programs.
The Lumberjacks once again proved that academics is at the forefront of the student-athlete experience as NAU finished with a department-wide 3.09 cumulative GPA during the 2012-13 academic year. Twelve of the department’s 15 programs achieved a GPA of at least 3.00 led by the women’s soccer team, who recorded a 3.49 GPA.
Four student-athletes received CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District honors and 119 total student-athletes were named All-Academic by the Big Sky and WAC. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 169 Northern Arizona University student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments, while maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average. A total of 56 student-athletes earned their degrees during the 2012-13 academic year, while the Lumberjacks also performed well on the APR Report published by the NCAA in June.
All 15 sponsored sports exceeded NCAA academic standards for the fourth consecutive year and the department’s overall APR of 977 was 28 points higher than 2010-11. Twelve squads carried multi-year totals above 960, while seven teams accomplished perfect single-year scores of 1000 led by the women’s tennis team who received the APR Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for earning a perfect single-year APR each of the last four years.
Show your school spirit and join the excitement at football and men's and women's basketball games in the Walkup Skydome, the second largest wooden dome structure in the United States. NAU also runs a complete indoor track and field schedule in the Dome, while the soccer, swimming and diving and outdoor track and field programs have on-campus facilities. The golf and tennis teams compete and practice at local venues in and around Flagstaff.
