On June 4, Copiague School District hosted a 5K walk/run at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School. The “Love Big” walk was in honor of Carmyne Payton, a Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School student who tragically passed away this year while trying out for the varsity basketball team.
The Copiague School District staff and their families were invited to participate, and their registration fee is being used for scholarships that will be presented to a varsity girl and varsity boy basketball player. This year’s event raised more than $4,300, and all proceeds will go directly toward the scholarships.
