The Minnesota State High School League recently recognized DeLaSalle High School with a Team Up 4 Community Challenge Award for the school’s extraordinary efforts to support the Annunciation community following last August’s tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis.
In the wake of the tragedy that claimed the lives of students Harper Moyski and Fletcher Merkel, the DeLaSalle community came together in powerful ways to provide comfort, support, and hope.
DeLaSalle student-athletes and families delivered flowers to neighbors impacted by the tragedy, helped organize a memorial volleyball tournament honoring Harper Moyski that raised nearly $70,000, and hosted a fundraiser and dedication game during one of the Islanders’ home volleyball matches.
The memorial event brought together athletes, coaches, families, and supporters from across the Minnesota volleyball community in a moving display of unity and compassion. Funds raised will support a permanent memorial honoring Harper and Fletcher while also benefiting local youth recreation opportunities.
Through their leadership, empathy, and commitment to service, DeLaSalle student-athletes demonstrated the true impact sports communities can have during times of unimaginable loss.
Way to go, Islanders!
