About:
East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School’s Student Council, which includes student athletes, under the direction of adviser Carol Sanders, orchestrated a blood drive with Long Island Blood Services on April 18.
Prior the event, student council members visited classrooms throughout the school building to educate fellow students about the process of donating blood, which included explaining the necessary paperwork, restrictions and the importance of donating. During the blood drive, students helped with registration and sat with donors after they made their blood or platelet contribution. They also handed out refreshments.
Sanders said members of the student council were excited to organize the drive, the third of the school year. “Our students are very community-minded. They come down here and they have a good understanding of the process and they understand what they are doing is saving lives” Sanders said.
