About:
The spirit of mentorship and community was on full display in the Mineola Union Free School District this week, as student leaders took time to inspire the next generation.
Members of the Athletes Helping Athletes program from Mineola High School recently visited 5th grade students at Mineola Middle School, creating a meaningful connection between younger learners and experienced student-athletes. The visit was more than just a meet-and-greet—it was an opportunity to share lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and leadership.
Athletes Helping Athletes is built on the idea that students can be powerful role models for one another. By stepping into classrooms and engaging with younger peers, high school athletes demonstrate that success isn’t just about winning games—it’s about character, discipline, and supporting others along the way.
For the 5th graders, the experience offered a glimpse into what lies ahead. Seeing older students who balance academics, athletics, and community involvement helps make their own goals feel more achievable. Conversations likely ranged from handling challenges in school to building confidence and staying motivated—topics that resonate at every stage of education.
Programs like this highlight what makes Mineola special. It’s not just about individual achievement, but about lifting each other up. When students take pride in guiding and encouraging their peers, it strengthens the entire district community.
Moments like these are a reminder of what #MineolaProud truly represents: connection, mentorship, and a shared commitment to growth.
