About:
This group of dedicated student-athletes is preparing for more than just the upcoming football season—they are preparing to lead.
This year, 44 rising seniors have chosen to participate in the program’s Football Leadership Council, a leadership development initiative designed to help student-athletes grow as leaders both on and off the field. The council is made up of players who will be seniors next year and plan to play football, giving them the opportunity to help shape the culture and direction of the program before their final season.
Throughout February, March, and April, the group meets during their Thursday lunch period to engage in meaningful discussions and leadership activities that focus on character, accountability, and connection.
One of the key components of the program is a book study, which the players began in February. Through guided discussions, student-athletes are encouraged to reflect, share openly, and challenge themselves to be vulnerable with their teammates. These conversations help build stronger relationships within the team while allowing players to connect personal growth with leadership on the field.
In addition to the book club, the Leadership Council plays an active role in shaping the football program. Players work together to develop team rules, expectations, and program guidelines, ensuring that the team’s standards are driven by the athletes themselves.
Another important focus of the council is community and youth engagement. The group organizes ways for high school players to connect with younger athletes throughout the year—from visiting students during recess and lunch to participating in youth camps and community activities. These efforts help strengthen the bond between the football program and the next generation of players.
At its core, the Leadership Council centers on an important question: What does it mean to live life as a high-character man? Through honest conversations and shared experiences, the players work to define the values that will guide their actions as teammates, leaders, and members of their community.
By investing time in leadership development and community connection, these student-athletes are helping build a football program defined not just by success on the field, but by character, responsibility, and service.
