About:
This year’s PINK/TEAL softball game was a powerful and emotional evening, drawing approximately 300 attendees from both the Croton-Harmon and Briarcliff communities. The event served as a tribute to those affected by breast and ovarian cancer, with Croton-Harmon student-athletes taking time to honor and remember loved ones impacted by these diseases. Each athlete created a personalized sign to display who they were playing for, adding a heartfelt and personal touch to the night.
This year’s game held special significance as the Croton-Harmon community paid tribute to alumna Elizabeth Zevin, a former softball team captain who tragically passed away from ovarian cancer. The game was dedicated in her memory, and her legacy served as a powerful reminder of the importance of awareness and support.
In addition to honoring Elizabeth, several local teachers and community members currently battling breast or ovarian cancer were invited to participate in a ceremonial first pitch. Their presence inspired players and spectators alike and underscored the deep connections within the Croton-Harmon community.
The event was truly a team effort. Croton-Harmon parents volunteered their time and talents — gathering raffle prizes from local businesses, preparing food, and helping to run the evening’s activities. The Modified Softball team also lent a hand by selling raffles throughout the night. Freelance photographer Dave Taber generously donated his time to capture moments from the event, with his work available at shotsofthegame.com.
On the field, Croton-Harmon defeated Briarcliff with a final score of 12-0, but the biggest win of the night was off the scoreboard — over $4,000 was raised for Support Connection, a not-for-profit organization that offers emotional, social, and educational support to women and families affected by breast, ovarian, and gynecological cancers. Many educators within the district have personally benefited from the resources and compassion this organization provides.
Now in its second decade, the PINK/TEAL game continues to unite the community for a cause greater than the game itself. This year’s event even drew the attention of Local 12 News, who covered the evening’s inspiring stories and community spirit.
