About:
Over 20 members of various LIU Post athletic programs volunteered in a successful “Night Out on the Pioneers” community engagement event at the Pratt Recreation Center on Friday night.
The event, organized by the LIU Post athletic and physical education departments, allowed parents from the institution’s local community to have an evening out after dropping off their children in a fun environment. Twenty-three local youngsters, ages 5-to-11, engaged in numerous holiday-themed activities with the Pioneers, including arts and crafts, Zumba and other physical recreation.
“Considering I’m going to school for physical education, it was nice volunteering for an event with good friends and teammates, while having a lot of fun playing with kids from the local community,” said one of the freshman volleyball players.
We had 76 student-athletes help out with this event. Combined, 216.5 hours of community service. 16 athletic teams (including cheer and dance)
