About:
This was a community service project that was originally put together by Ben Devlin, the Varsity Lacrosse Coach at Oliver Ames. Coach Devlin was having his boys do a community service project and combined it with a fundraiser. The idea was that we would do spring cleaning in people’s yards and they would donate what they wanted, which would go to the AJ Quetta fund. Coach Devlin and I split up the yards, he did his Saturday and I did mine on Sunday. I had 21 boys come out on a cold Sunday morning, bring their own rakes and go rake people’s yards. It was amazing. We had a couple of our group drop out and only send the donations, so we had 3 teams of 7, captained by myself, and my assistant coaches, Stephen Patch and Jack Pettine, do 1 yard each. With the small amount of yards that we had, the boys spent a couple of hours on each yard.
AJ Quetta was a varsity hockey and lacrosse player who was paralyzed in a freak accident playing hockey. As AJ was supposed to be part of the varsity lacrosse program, the Feehan lacrosse team voted him as Captain for 2021, which we had announced on a NESN broadcast.
I couldn’t have been prouder of those 21 boys and 2 coaches, as well as to be part of the team with OA to try to make a difference for AJ!
