About:
The Feehan Hockey Fights Cancer team was formed because cancer had touched many members of the Bishop Feehan hockey community in some way. Their goal was to take action against the disease and support those affected.
Beginning with their games on Saturday, January 6, 2024, the Bishop Feehan Boys and Girls Hockey teams spent several weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society.
On game day at the New England Sports Village in Attleboro, MA, the event honored lives lost to cancer, celebrated survivors, and supported caregivers who selflessly help others. Various activities were organized to raise funds, including the sale of Feehan Hockey Fights Cancer bracelets.
The Bishop Feehan Boys Varsity team played against St. Mary’s of Lynn at 5:00 pm, followed by the Bishop Feehan Girls Varsity team facing Sandwich at 7:00 pm. Both teams wore Hockey Fights Cancer alternate jerseys in solidarity with the cause.
During the event, Feehan Hockey Fights Cancer bracelets were sold, with the remaining unsold bracelets distributed among the boys’ and girls’ teams for further sales at school and within their communities. Additional fundraising efforts included a 50/50 raffle at both games and a “Pie a Feehan Hockey Player” event, where participants could throw whipped cream pies at players. The girls’ parents and players assisted with event efforts during the boys’ game, while the boys’ parents and players did the same during the girls’ game.
A fundraising link was also created in partnership with the American Cancer Society, allowing supporters to contribute online. The campaign successfully raised $4,142 for the American Cancer Society, helping fund innovative research, provide free resources for those affected by cancer, and offer transportation and lodging assistance for patients undergoing treatment.
