About:

The 21st anniversary of Sept. 11 was commemorated by Freeport Public Schools with different ceremonies across the district. Among each of the solemn ceremonies students and staff honored those who lost their lives and offered their gratitude for the first responders who keep the Freeport schools and community safe.

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kishore Kuncham, along with Board of Education President Maria-Jordan Awalom and administrators were present to show their appreciation and observe a moment of silence along with students and staff. Students read poems, sang songs and members of Freeport’s Fire Department and Police Department offered inspiring words of hope.

Closing the ceremony, Dr. Kuncham offered thanks to the first responders for their service and sacrifice, “We remember the resolve of this great country, we remember all those who have sacrificed their lives, our heroes, and we offer our deepest thanks to them for always protecting us.” He went on to say, “We need to spread peace in our communities and in this world. Remember, we are the changemakers, we need to transcend from hate to love, and from good to greatness.”
