About:
For the month of September the Harborfields Field Hockey program attempted to bring awareness and raise funds for those who suffer from Pediatric Cancer. We decided to donate everything our team raised to Corey’s Promise.
Corey’s Promise was established in 2022 in the memory of former Harborfields Student-Athlete, Corey Phelan, who succumbed to cancer in 2022. Their mission is to offset the financial burdens families endure during their child’s cancer diagnosis and to raise awareness about Pediatric Cancer.
We had 39 student-athletes participate on our JV and Varsity teams in addition to the coaching staff.
One of the first ways that we helped raise awareness was by donating funds and participating in the Daniela Conte Foundation Go Gold in September Shoe Lace campaign sponsored by the Daniela Conte Foundation. Every one of our players wore gold shoe laces throughout the month of September. Senior Captain, Kate Lysaght, approached our staff about doing a Car Wash to help raise funds. The girls coordinated everything, including working with a local Boy Scout troop to donate supplies and we successfully held a car wash on September 10 raising over $1000. Throughout the month of September the girls made and sold yellow clay bracelets, as well as pink bracelets for Breast Cancer Awareness and Green/White bracelets to represent Harborfields colors. We made these bracelets before or after practice and members of the team would also take the beads home at night to made additional bracelets. In total the girls spent between 10-15 hours helping throughout the month of September. Both of these fundraisers, as well as donations from alumni and community members, have allowed us to donate $2,300 to Corey’s Promise.
