About:
the Harborfields Girls Basketball Team held their annual Coaches vs. Cancer charity game, partnering with the Stand Up Strong club to raise funds for an incredibly important cause. The event was filled with emotion and purpose as the team honored those whose lives have been touched by cancer, with a special tribute to Belle Svoboda, a beloved member of the Washington Drive community.
During a heartfelt ceremony at the game, the players, coaches, and spectators came together to remember those affected by cancer, raising awareness and showing their unwavering support. Belle Svoboda’s courage and strength were especially celebrated, and her impact on those around her was a poignant reminder of the power of community and resilience in the face of adversity.
The night culminated in an incredible victory for the Harborfields Girls Basketball team, as they triumphed over Half Hollow Hills, capping off an unforgettable evening. The victory was more than just a win on the court—it was a testament to the power of sports to unite, inspire, and make a difference in the lives of others.
This event was a true reflection of the Harborfields community’s spirit of giving, and the funds raised will go a long way in supporting cancer research and those affected by the disease.
Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and supported this special evening. Your generosity and support continue to make a lasting impact. Together, we are Stand Up Strong in the fight against cancer.
From Section XI:
Harborfields Girls Basketball recently hosted Half Hollow Hills for its annual Coaches vs Cancer Pink Game.
Last year, the team invited a local elementary student battling cancer. She recently had to have her leg amputated. The team invited her again this year – and what a year it was for this amazing young lady. She wrote a book, received a prosthetic, and has clean scans.
The teams headed to the locker room after the presentation to this girl and her family. The first player on Hills kneeled in front of our honoree and gave her a double fist pump. The remainder of the team followed suit, and so did the coaches.
If you were lucky enough to catch this moment, you had tears in your eyes and realized that this is what sports should be about. These players are role models. They offered support and hope to a little girl and didn’t pity her for her situation but honored her for her fight.
