Sportsfest is an annual event where all sports teams from every season host 2 1-hour long clinics to elementary students (grades 2 – 6). The event is free to students and families, funded by the PTA, the Varsity Club, and fundraising by the event coordinators.
The elementary students and student athletes receive lunch, shirts, water, snacks, and a draw string bag. The kids get to play with the high school student and form new connections and interests. Many students loved being able to try out a sport to see if they were interested, and parents appreciated the opportunity as well. Between this year and last, we had 3 girls try wrestling and 2 boys try field hockey.
It is also a great way for programs to expand their audience and encourage community involvement. Many parents developed new friendships, as well as students.
