About:
The Hewlett Girls Soccer team stepped off the field and onto the paths of Jones Beach, proudly joining thousands of participants at the American Cancer Society’s 2024 Breast Cancer Walk. For over a decade, the team has been a steadfast presence at this event, walking side-by-side with survivors, supporters, and advocates, each step symbolizing their dedication to raising awareness and supporting those affected by breast cancer. This year, a spirited group of 25 players from the varsity, junior varsity, and middle school teams, along with several parents, united to continue this meaningful tradition.
The Bulldogs’ commitment to community service runs deep, and it’s especially evident in events like this. Each year, the varsity captains take the lead in organizing t-shirt sales, which have become a hallmark of their fundraising efforts. Coordinating with the school district and supported by their parents’ association, the captains not only collect orders but also manage funds and oversee the ordering process. With tremendous community support, they sold over 100 shirts this year. Part of each sale goes directly to the American Cancer Society, turning each shirt worn into a symbol of support and a source of donation.
Before the walk begins, the team gathers for a special breakfast tailgate in the parking lot. It’s a chance to bond, reflect, and prepare for the meaningful day ahead. As the group assembles, one of the coaches speaks, sharing words that remind everyone why they walk and the profound impact of standing together for a cause that affects so many lives.
This annual event goes beyond just a walk; it’s a reminder of the incredible power of teamwork, compassion, and leadership that shines through when student-athletes like the Bulldogs rally for a common purpose. Their involvement serves as an inspiring example of how young leaders can step up to make a difference, creating ripples of positive impact both on and off the field.
