About:
Student leaders from John F. Kennedy High School recently made a meaningful impact beyond their school walls through a day of community service.
Members of the school’s Student Government volunteered at the Long Island Alzheimer’s and Dementia Center, where they spent time connecting with guests through engaging activities such as bingo and arts and crafts. The visit was part of the CARMA initiative — Cougars as Role Model Americans — a program within Student Government that encourages students to serve as positive role models through volunteerism and community engagement.
Throughout the afternoon, students helped create a warm and uplifting atmosphere by participating in activities alongside residents. Following lunch, they also joined guests in a music therapy session, further strengthening connections and bringing joy to those at the facility.
The CARMA program is supported by John F. Kennedy High School’s Student Government, which includes more than 100 student members committed to leadership and service. In addition to their recent visit to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Center, students have taken part in several impactful initiatives this year. During the fall, members participated in the Jones Beach Breast Cancer Walk, showing support for individuals and families affected by breast cancer. On February 11, students also volunteered their time to cook and serve dinner at the Ronald McDonald House, providing comfort and care to families facing medical challenges.
With additional service projects planned for the spring, Student Government leaders at John F. Kennedy High School continue to demonstrate empathy, responsibility, and a strong dedication to making a positive difference in their community.
