About:
It was a night focused on far more than the final score as the Kenmore East Varsity Basketball teams combined competition with meaningful community impact during their recent ALS Awareness games.
Student-athletes used the platform of their home games to raise awareness for ALS while also supporting the district’s Jerry Starr Sleepout initiative. Following the games, players took part in a powerful act of service by carrying canned goods down the school hallways, helping to collect donations that will benefit community members in need.
The event showcased the leadership, generosity, and teamwork of the Bulldogs, who demonstrated how athletic programs can play an important role in mobilizing school communities around important causes. By supporting both health awareness and food security efforts in a single evening, the teams highlighted the wide-reaching impact student-athletes can have when they come together with purpose.
Community members, fans, and supporters also played a key role in the success of the initiative, contributing donations and helping to create an inspiring atmosphere that reflected the district’s strong commitment to service and compassion.
Through efforts like these, Kenmore East student-athletes continue to set a powerful example — showing that sports can be a catalyst for awareness, generosity, and meaningful change both inside and outside the gym.
