About:
In their inaugural season, the Kenmore Girls Flag Football team—representing a combined effort from Kenmore East and Kenmore West High Schools—has already made a meaningful impact both on and off the field. Under the leadership of Head Coach Dan Hannon, the team has embraced community engagement as a cornerstone of its mission, working to inspire younger students and build awareness for the growing program.
On May 8th, the team took a special field trip to two local elementary schools: Hoover Elementary (a feeder school for Kenmore West) and Edison Elementary (a feeder school for Kenmore East). The goal was simple yet powerful—to introduce flag football to younger students and spark excitement about future participation.
At Edison Elementary, players led a third-grade physical education class through six different skill stations, including throwing, catching, route running, and flag pulling. Afterward, the athletes visited the fourth-grade classrooms of Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Ceffaratti. There, students conducted a mock “media day” with pre-arranged questions for the team, asking everything from favorite memories and motivations to preferred pre-game snacks. Coach Hannon reflected on the experience as one of the highlights of the season, noting how deeply the players’ responses reflected their growth and camaraderie.
At Hoover Elementary, the team once again hosted flag football skill stations for 3rd and 4th graders. Following the activities, players visited classrooms to read with students. One group joined Mrs. Guggliuzza’s 4th-grade class, while another read to kindergarteners in Ms. Good’s room. Emphasizing academics alongside athletics, the team used this time to model the importance of being student-athletes and role models.
Continuing their outreach, the team hosted a youth flag football clinic on May 10th at Adams Field following their game against Grand Island. Open to all Ken-Ton girls in grades 3 through 6, the clinic featured warm-ups, skill-building stations, and mini-games—all led by the team’s athletes. The event was a resounding success, offering younger students hands-on experience and an exciting glimpse into what it means to be part of the team.
Coach Hannon praised his players for their dedication and heart, calling the year “incredible” and the group “truly special.” The Kenmore Girls Flag Football team may be new, but their commitment to fostering community, leadership, and love for the game has already left a lasting legacy.
