About:
This holiday season, the Irondequoit swim community demonstrated the true spirit of giving by coming together to support a local family through the Irondequoit Community Cupboard (ICC). The initiative showcased the power of teamwork and compassion during a time when community support matters most.
The effort was truly a team endeavor. After learning about the ICC program, a member of the Irondequoit swim community brought the opportunity to Head Coach Dave Simon. With his full support, the swim program mobilized quickly to make a meaningful difference for a family in need.
Athletes from across the program—Varsity Girls, Varsity and JV Boys, and the Coed Modified team—participated, resulting in an overwhelming turnout of donations. Thanks to the generosity of the entire swim community, each child in the selected family received five gifts, while the parents received items from their wish lists along with additional gift cards and donated food. The collective effort ensured the family could enjoy a joyful and memorable holiday season.
About the ICC Program
The Irondequoit Community Cupboard provides a structured and impactful way for community groups to give back. Once a group commits to participating, ICC shares a list of three to four families, including family size, children’s names and ages, and suggested gift ideas for both children and parents.
With full participation from the swim program, the team selected a family of six—two adults and four children—to support. This process allowed the athletes, coaches, and families to work together with purpose while addressing the specific needs of the chosen family.
This initiative not only supported a local family during the holidays but also reinforced the values of generosity, unity, and service within the Irondequoit swim program. It stands as a powerful example of how student-athletes can make a lasting impact beyond competition.
