About:

Westbury, N.Y. – Earlier this month, the LIU Post women’s basketball team spent a day at the “Yes We Can” Community Center in Westbury.

The team had 16 student-athletes lend a hand at the community center, where children, ages 6-through-18, attend as an after-school program.

The “Yes We Can” Community Center allows students to complete their homework and participate in activities five days a week. Such activities include playing sports and learning how to dance.

The student-athletes were paired up with the younger students from grades 1-to-5 to help them with their homework. Additionally, the Pioneers assisted kids in grades 6-to-9 with math homework.

The team capped off the afternoon by playing sports and games with the children, in addition to running through an obstacle course.
