About:
The MacArthur High School baseball program recently hosted its 10th Annual Autism Awareness Baseball Game, continuing a meaningful tradition centered around inclusion, acceptance, and community support.
Since 2016, MacArthur and Plainview JFK have partnered for the special event to raise awareness for individuals living with autism while also supporting local families through fundraising efforts. The annual game has become a powerful reminder of how athletics can bring communities together for a greater cause.
Both teams wore custom jerseys sponsored by former MacArthur General John Theissen in honor of former MacArthur baseball player Anthony Mariano, Class of 1994, who tragically lost his life in 2020 after being struck by a drunk driver.
Before the game, Mariano’s family, along with organizer Vin Causeman and his family, joined the teams on the field for emotional honorary first pitches thrown by Matt D’Angelo and Haley Causeman, creating a memorable moment for everyone in attendance.
The event also featured impressive fundraising efforts led by the MacArthur Dugout Club, with special recognition given to the Martino, Mallozzi, and Mannarino families for organizing raffle baskets that helped raise money to support families impacted by autism.
From honoring loved ones to supporting inclusion and raising awareness, the day reflected the strong sense of community and compassion that continues to define MacArthur Baseball both on and off the field.
