About:

For the past few years, we have had a 1 game event to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. This year is my first year as the Head Coach for Varsity. I decided it would be nice to include more schools to help raise awareness.
The tournament was the weekend of October 22nd and 23rd and included 4 high school Varsity volleyball teams; Medford HS, North Reading HS, Matignon HS, and Saugus HS. I created a Pink Out t-shirt that displayed all 4 high schools and we pre-sold them to all of the schools, parents, families, friends, etc. At the tournaments, we held a concession stand along with a bake sale which also helped us raise money.
On Saturday, Oct. 22nd, North Reading played Saugus and Medford played Matignon. North Reading and Medford won the Saturday game and went on to play in the Championship game on Sunday, Oct. 23rd. Saugus played Matignon in the consolation game on Sunday morning. Medford won the overall tournament, North Reading came in 2nd, Saugus came in 3rd and Matignon came in 4th. I will be adding Medford HS to the Pink Out Volleyball Championship trophy.
We intend to continue this tournament every year and the other schools have already said they would like to come back. The Pink Out trophy will stay at Medford HS and have the winners name added to the front plate every year. The winning team will receive a plaque to have at their own school saying that they won the tournament. We will continue to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness by selling new t-shirts each year and having a bake sale/concession stand the weekend of the tournament.
This 1st annual tournament was a great success. The schools got into it and made pink uniforms to show their support. It was great to see all the teams come together and support this event. We were able to raise $2,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness.
If you need anything else, please let me know.

In the Medford Girls Program, we have 3 teams; Varsity, JV and Freshman. There are 40 players and 6 boys from the Boys Volleyball team that help with the girls program. All 46 athletes helped to make this weekend a success. The other high schools had about 12-15 girls on their Varsity teams that came to play in the tournament. There were a total of about 85 high school athletes that played and helped during this tournament.

Most of the 46 players have been selling the t-shirts since the beginning of September. I would estimate they spent at least 70 hours all together selling t-shirts, collecting t-shirt money and distributing them. They sold almost 500 shirts. The weekend of the tournament, between decorating, playing, working the concession stand and cleaning up. I would say my 46 players/helpers were there for at least 14 hours each and the other programs that had roughly 39 high school athletes were there for at least 7 hours each.
