About:
The Molloy University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce a formal partnership with Team IMPACT, a national organization whose unique multiyear program matches children faces serious illness and disabilities with college athletic teams across the country. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT guides a symbiotic relationship between teams and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience.
Molloy University has worked with Team IMPACT for the past five years, matching six children across its women’s bowling, men’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, and softball teams.
This new agreement builds on the relationships, including enhanced opportunities for student-athletes through a Team IMPACT Fellowship program and development opportunities through curriculum-based training on topics such as diversity and inclusion, advocacy, and professional development. Molloy has already had three student-athletes go through the Team IMPACT Fellowship over the last four years.
In addition, Molloy University will host multiple promotions throughout the year including spotlighting Team IMPACT at select games. Most recently, Molloy celebrated this official partnership by welcoming all of the matches to the men’s basketball game against D’Youville on Sunday (Jan. 29). The softball team also conducted a Team IMPACT awareness game last spring and has designated the April 2 doubleheader against Queens College as Team IMPACT Day in 2023.
“This is an exciting day for Team IMPACT and the families of pediatric patients in Long Island,” said Ryan Irwin, Executive Director for the Northeast at Team IMPACT. “This partnership will further strengthen our relationship and celebrate our collective mission to transform our community through service by improving the lives of children living with life-altering diagnoses. Thank you to Susan Cassidy-Lyke and the entire Molloy athletic department who have demonstrated their commitment to creating life-changing experiences for the children and student-athletes involved in our program.”
Team IMPACT team members officially sign with their team and participate in many activities with their team over a two-year period, including games, practices, and other team events.
“We recognize the importance of the Team IMPACT mission and we value our relationship with our teammates,” said Susan Cassidy-Lyke, Director of Athletics. “Any opportunity we have to make their day special and enjoyable is a win for all of our student-athletes.”
