About:
Mounds View Football continues to demonstrate how strong leadership can shape a program far beyond game day. Through its player-led leadership council, the Mustangs emphasize the importance of connected teams that take ownership of their growth both on and off the field.
By empowering student-athletes to lead, Mounds View Football is building a culture rooted in accountability, purpose, and shared responsibility. This intentional approach not only strengthens performance on the field, but also prepares students to lead with confidence throughout their school and community.
The leadership council meets every other Wednesday morning and serves as a cornerstone of the program’s player-led culture. Sessions focus on relationship-building and developing the traits of influential leaders. A key component of the program is a book study, where student-athletes complete guided questions, engage in small-group discussions, and then come together for full-group conversations to share insights and perspectives.
Beyond discussion and reflection, the leadership council has also participated in service projects, reinforcing the importance of giving back and leading through action.
Programs like Mounds View Football’s leadership council reflect the core values of education-based athletics—developing young leaders who are committed to reaching their potential and making a positive impact well beyond the scoreboard.
