On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the 6th Annual “In Memory of Daniela Conte” Blood Drive was held at St. Matthew’s Church in Dix Hills, bringing community members together in support of a truly lifesaving cause. The event welcomed 61 donors, resulting in 54 successful blood donations that will help provide critical care for patients in need.
Among the participants, four donors took part in the Alyx Double Red Blood Cell donation program, which counts as two donations each and significantly increased the overall impact of the drive. In addition, 10 registered donors were first-time participants, either giving blood for the first time ever or making their first donation through the New York Blood Center. Inspiring new donors to step forward is a meaningful milestone that helps strengthen the future of blood donation efforts.
A major highlight of the event was the leadership shown by three dedicated high school student-athletes who helped plan and organize the drive in the weeks leading up to the event. Their hard work, coordination, and positive energy helped ensure the day ran smoothly while creating a welcoming environment for every donor.
The student leaders included:
-
Jackson Amiruddin, Sanford H. Calhoun High School – Volleyball
-
Christopher Morici, Commack High School – Varsity Soccer
-
Ava Ray, Half Hollow Hills West High School – Field Hockey
Ava, in particular, went above and beyond in her involvement. As part of her school’s Senior Experience program, she has been interning with Daniela Conte Foundation initiatives since October, playing an active role in outreach, planning, and event coordination. Demonstrating her personal commitment to the cause, Ava also donated blood for the very first time at the event.
Through the combined efforts of student organizers, volunteers, and generous donors, the blood drive is estimated to positively impact up to 186 lives, showcasing the powerful difference youth leadership and community collaboration can make.
Organizing a successful blood drive requires creativity, teamwork, and compassion. Thanks to the dedication of everyone involved, this year’s event served not only as a critical community resource but also as a meaningful tribute to Daniela Conte’s legacy of kindness and service. The initiative stands as a powerful reminder that when young leaders step forward, even a single day of service can create a lasting impact across an entire community.
