About:
Mount Morris Central School brought its community together once again for its 16th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer fundraising event, using the power of athletics to support families affected by cancer and advance a cause that extends far beyond the court.
The full day of basketball featured Mount Morris facing Perry in JV Boys, Varsity Girls, and Varsity Boys matchups, creating an energetic atmosphere throughout. While the competition delivered excitement, the heart of the event was service. 100% of the proceeds raised will benefit families within the Mount Morris Central School District who are battling cancer, as well as support national cancer organizations, including the American Cancer Society.
This longstanding tradition is led by the Mount Morris Student Council, whose members take an active role in planning, organizing, and promoting the event. Students work throughout the community to secure donated gift cards and gift baskets for raffles, organize fundraising logistics, and engage local supporters. Custom Coaches vs. Cancer t-shirts, featuring team logos and the game date, were sold to raise additional funds, and Mount Morris teams proudly wore them during warm-ups as a visible show of unity.
Community support played a key role in the event’s success, with donations collected at the door and strong attendance from Mount Morris and Perry families, staff, and fans. Every dollar raised stays close to home, directly supporting local families while also contributing to broader cancer research and advocacy efforts.
Now in its 16th year, Coaches vs. Cancer at Mount Morris continues to demonstrate how school athletics can inspire empathy, leadership, and collective action. Through student leadership and sustained community involvement, this tradition remains a powerful reminder that teamwork doesn’t end when the final buzzer sounds.
