About:
The Nashoba Volleyball program recently hosted their annual Dig Pink game, a special event dedicated to raising awareness for breast cancer. Facing off against Shrewsbury, the match transcended competition, uniting players, fans, and the broader community in support of a meaningful cause. The gym was adorned with pink ribbons and decorations, symbolizing solidarity with those affected by breast cancer.
As part of a nationwide initiative supported by volleyball teams across the country, the Dig Pink event aimed to raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research. Nashoba Athletics embraced this cause wholeheartedly, demonstrating their commitment to making a difference on and off the court. The program’s 42 athletes, spanning three teams, all contributed to the effort, working together to ensure the event’s success.
Promotion for Dig Pink Night extended beyond the court, with social media campaigns and the athletes wearing pink to school on game day to draw attention to the cause. Many accessorized their pink attire with breast cancer awareness tattoos and pins. After school, the team came together to decorate the gyms and entryway, setting the stage for a night dedicated to advocacy and support.
A bake sale featuring pink-themed treats, made by students and their families, was held alongside the game. Volunteers contributed baked goods and manned the sale, with all proceeds going directly to the cause. Additional funds were raised through the admission fee and a 50/50 raffle, resulting in a total of $776 being donated.
The Nashoba Volleyball program chose to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation due to its strong reputation on Charity Navigator and its mission to “Help Women Now” through early detection, education, and support services. Each athlete spent one to two hours preparing for Dig Pink Night, from gathering supplies and decorating to baking and volunteering. Their collective efforts turned the game into a powerful demonstration of community spirit and generosity, transforming it into more than just a match—it was a united stand against breast cancer.
