About:
The North Rockland Field Hockey Program is proud to announce its recognition with the Section I Community Service Award, honoring the team’s dedication to making a meaningful impact in the community. This award highlights individuals and groups that:
- Exemplify dedication to community service
- Actively value and participate in volunteerism
- Demonstrate tangible impact on their community, considering local needs
- Engage in mentoring and other forms of citizenship, including fundraising
The program received this award in recognition of two cornerstone initiatives:
Honoring Heroes Through the Tunnel to Towers Foundation
Every year, the field hockey program partners with Fleet Fundraising to organize a fundraiser that pays tribute to first responders, veterans, and victims of September 11, 2001. Through the sale of USA/First Responder Tribute Hoodies, the teams have become powerful advocates for raising awareness about the sacrifices and dedication of our military and first responders.
This year, they proudly donated $2,000 to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, bringing their total contributions since 2019-2020 to $7,500. This success has been driven by the leadership of the senior class, who were among the original pioneers of the fundraiser, and the unwavering support of our community.
Going Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness
Each season, they also partner with Go4theGoal to support childhood cancer awareness. By “lacing up” with gold laces purchased from the organization, our program contributes to initiatives that provide grants and resources to improve hospital environments for children and their families.
The annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Game is dedicated to Jelien, an 8-year-old North Rockland resident and childhood cancer survivor. Jelien, a student at West Haverstraw Elementary, bravely completed her treatments in April 2021 and continues to inspireeveryone with her resilience and courage.
A Legacy of Service and Leadership
The success of these initiatives speaks to the heart and dedication of the players, coaches, and community. Through leadership on and off the field, the program has raised awareness and supported causes that matter deeply, demonstrating what it truly means to give back.
They extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported these efforts over the years. Together, they are making a lasting impact and creating a legacy of service, compassion, and leadership.
