About:
Queens, N.Y. – Last week, members of the NYIT men’s basketball program volunteered their time to spend an afternoon with a group of children from PS 36 as their first community service effort this season.
The players demonstrated to the kids how you can have fun exercising by creating games around form shooting, form passing and dribbling moves. To end the day, the team took on the group in a dance-off to show that dancing can be exercise too.
“It’s always nice to give back time to the community and for my guys to understand what kind of role models they are off the court,” said Head Coach Rob Isme. “To see some of my newcomers come out of their shell to interact with those kids was priceless.”
“I think it’s important for us [the team] to realize the impact we can have on young kids by spending an afternoon with them,” commented senior captain Jon Feiler. “Not only was it great for us to be with the kids, but the returners were able to bond with the new members of the team off the court.”
