About:

Astoria, N.Y. – The Queens College men’s and women’s cross country teams spent last Saturday cleaning a park instead of running through one, as the teams chipped in to help clean up Astoria Park, nearby in Queens.

The teams joined volunteers from New York Cares to spend part of Saturday in and around Astoria Park. The men’s cross country team cleaned up the parking lot and walkways and removed garbage, litter and other unwelcome stuff. After that, they joined the women’s cross country team in Astoria Garden and the teams planted dozens of flowers and trees.

Senior runner and Queens native, Tyler Bay reflected on the afternoon, “We run through many of these parks so often, we sometimes forget who has to clean them. But it’s nice to be able to give back and help keep these parks clean so everyone can enjoy them.”

The Queens College cross country teams return to action on Saturday, October 3, when they run in the NJIT Invitational from Jersey City, New Jersey.
