Queens College Women’s Basketball Walks in Breast Cancer Charity Event
New York – The Queens College women’s basketball team spent its Sunday participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer charity walk in Central Park, Manhattan to help raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. The team walked as part of the team of Burke-Browne.
Team Burke-Browne hits home with the QC community as part of the name comes from the mother of current QC athletics Director of Compliance, Jaime Browne, whose mother succumbed to the disease earlier this year. The team walked in her memory.
The team joined nearly 50,000 other walkers (most of whom were breast cancer survivers) on the chilly morning for the run. Graduate Student, and current guard on the team reflected on the event, “The breast cancer walk was a great opportunity to show our support for a cause that has touched us all.” She added: “It was nice to come together with my teammates and other members of team Burke-Browne in membrance of loved ones and in celebration of survivors.”
Head Coach, Bet Naumovski shared her thoughts on the day as well, “The five-mile walk was a positive celebration of survival and hope. It was an honor to walk alongside true champions.”
