About:
This Friday, October 25th, at 6:30 PM, Randolph will face off against Tech Boston in the annual Crucial Catch game, an event held in partnership with the American Cancer Society. Now in its fourth year, this collaboration aims to bring greater significance to the tradition of wearing pink during October, turning it into more than just a fashion statement.
In the past, many football players have worn pink without fully understanding the meaning behind it. However, in 2021, Randolph’s football program partnered with the American Cancer Society to emphasize that “Pink isn’t just a fashion statement.” The goal is to help players and the community understand the deeper message behind Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since the partnership began, the team has embraced this mindset, making the game increasingly meaningful each year.
Some key highlights of the event include:
- The creation of 100 custom Randolph football t-shirts with pink and white lettering, sponsored by local businesses. All proceeds from these sales go directly to the American Cancer Society.
- A dedicated donation page in conjunction with the ACS, allowing the community to contribute to breast cancer research and support.
- Balloons are displayed around the field, featuring the names of local individuals affected by breast cancer. Community members submit these names through a Google form, providing a heartfelt tribute to those impacted.
- Each year, several honorary game captains are chosen, often Randolph High School alumni, community members, or friends and family of players affected by breast cancer. This year, four individuals will be honored: Danna Tagen (RHS Class of 1988), Barbara Agnew Moore (RHS Class of 1971), Nancy Goggin (wife of one of the coaches and mother of a Super Bowl team captain), and Jenna Voss Rath, the cousin of the team’s coach, who at just 24 years old is currently battling stage 4 advanced breast cancer. Although Jenna will not be able to attend due to her treatment, she remains in the thoughts of the entire team and community.
This Crucial Catch game is more than just a sporting event; it’s a celebration of unity, strength, and hope in the face of adversity. The Randolph community looks forward to another powerful night in support of an important cause.
