About:
The Sachem North Girls Lacrosse program recently demonstrated the true meaning of education-based athletics—using the game they love to support a cause far greater than the scoreboard.
In a powerful and purposeful matchup, student-athletes from Sachem North and Walt Whitman came together to dedicate their game to Morgan’s Message, a national organization committed to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health in athletics.
This collaboration was made even more impactful thanks to the willingness of Walt Whitman to join Sachem North in supporting such an important cause—showcasing how athletics can bring communities together for something bigger.
At the center of this initiative was Sachem North student-athlete Aislin Lawton, a Morgan’s Message ambassador who took the lead in organizing and driving the effort. Aislin delivered a powerful pregame speech, sharing the core mission of Morgan’s Message and emphasizing the importance of mental health awareness for student-athletes.
Her leadership set the tone for the event, creating an atmosphere of support, reflection, and unity.
Both teams also participated in fundraising efforts by purchasing Morgan’s Message shirts, with a portion of the proceeds going directly back to the organization. Through these efforts, the teams collectively raised $350 to support ongoing mental health advocacy.
“This one meant more,” the team shared—highlighting the deeper purpose behind the game. Every play, every moment on the field carried meaning, as the athletes proudly represented a message that extends far beyond sports: that no one should struggle alone, and every athlete deserves to be seen, heard, and supported.
Events like this continue to show the incredible impact student-athletes can have when they step into leadership roles—using their voices and platforms to raise awareness, inspire change, and build stronger, more compassionate communities.
