HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2014) – Hosted by former softball player Alexis Gonzalez (Hauppauge, N.Y.), the LIU Post softball team took some time to assist with Kicks For Cancer last Saturday.
Kicks for Cancer celebrates former Hauppauge High School student Courtney Tomkin, who was diagnosed with brain cancer and lost her battle six years ago. Gonzalez holds the event every year at the high school during the men’s and women’s soccer Kicks for Cancer benefit contests.
“LIU Post softball looks forward to attending this event every year in support of Coutney Tomkin,” said Head Coach Jamie Apicella (Holbrook, N.Y.). “We will continue to support Courtney’s family and friends every year at Kicks for Cancer.”
The Pioneers volunteered their time throughout the soccer matches, selling raffle tickets and helping Gonzalez in the organization and management of the event.
“We love coming down to Kicks for Cancer every year in support of our former teammate and to honor the memory of Courtney Tomkin,” said sophomore infielder Kayla McCoy (Smithtown, N.Y.). “Alexis coordinates such an amazing event and our team is always more than happy to help out such an important cause.”
