About:
In a fun and creative twist on fundraising, Dr. Murphy’s house got “flocked” by the South Huntington Girls Leaders Organization as part of their annual effort to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. The event supports the Stand Up For Suzanne organization, and the playful “flocking” tradition has become a beloved and impactful community event.
So, what is “flocking”? Picture this: under the cover of darkness, teams of girls sneak out to place bright pink flamingo decorations on the lawns of unsuspecting community members. It’s a cheerful surprise with a serious purpose—each flock symbolizes support for breast cancer awareness and serves as a reminder of the importance of this cause.
Last year the prganization had 62 girls participating over seven nights, setting a record with 30 flocks spread across the town. With 70 active members in the club, the dedication and teamwork required are impressive. Each night, teams spend about four hours preparing and executing their missions, clocking a total of 24 hours in a week, not counting the hours spent on planning and logistics. From arranging lawn signs and assembling flocks to scheduling teams and coordinating the nightly “operations,” the girls put their all into making the initiative a success.
Their efforts are not just about raising money; it’s about coming together for a cause they are passionate about, all while bringing joy and surprise to the community. If you’d like to learn more about this incredible effort or see more photos of the flocking in action, feel free to reach out!
