About:
Student-athletes from Southampton High School and Southampton Intermediate School recently rolled up their sleeves to take part in the 2025 Great East End Cleanup, a town-wide initiative led by the Town of Southampton in honor of Earth Day. Varsity and junior varsity baseball players volunteered their time to help clean up the school grounds and surrounding areas, reinforcing the importance of giving back to their community.
The teams focused their efforts on removing trash and debris from the fields, bushes, and roads around both the high school and middle school campuses. One particularly impacted area, Narrow Lane—the main road leading to the schools—was found littered with garbage and construction waste, which the students diligently worked to clear.
This community service project is just one example of how the Southampton baseball program encourages its players to make a positive impact beyond the field. The athletes also regularly volunteer to run Little League clinics and help coach youth teams.
“It’s important for our kids to give back to the town that supports them,” said a team representative. “These are valuable life lessons that go beyond the game.”
Special credit goes to Molly Bishop, one of the player’s parents, for helping to organize the effort. Molly, who also serves as the Director of Heart of the Hamptons, is a dedicated community leader who helps operate a local pantry for families in need and supports a variety of local initiatives.
Thanks to the teamwork of the players, coaches, and volunteers like Molly, this year’s cleanup not only left the school grounds looking better but also helped instill a strong sense of community responsibility in the next generation.
