About:
The Miracle Club Dodgeball Tournament to benefit Bobby Menges’ I’m Not Done Yet Foundation was last Wednesday and it was a huge success.
“Keep calm and dodge balls”.
There are 150 students (or more) in the Miracle Club. It is the largest service club in the high school. 174 students (29 teams of six) played in the event, which is one of our annual fundraisers. All of the bleachers were filled with student players and spectators. Because there was a playoff varsity basketball game, the event was limited to a single-elimination tournament (it’s usually a double-elimination tourney) so it was 1.5 hours. A sophomore team won the event – a real upset over a seasoned senior team.
The club members did it all; I had an unexpected surgery on that very day. They hosted a bake sale and sold T-shirts to raise additional monies to benefit the I’m Not Done Yet Foundation. Every penny we make is donated to INDY Foundation; Bobby Menges was my adored student and the past president of the club.
Tomorrow, the Miracle Club is also supporting Hoops for Hope, which is an event conceived by former student Tim O’Hanlon. His brother Michael has taken over this year. Students from all of Garden City schools will attend a Challenger basketball game (our Challenger team is comprised of students with physical and learning disabilities) featuring our amazing GCHS players at 3:30 p.m. The idea is to have the entire student body cheer and support them. The Miracle Club has helped with the advertising, will run a bake sale, take donations at the entryways and sell raffle tickets. Mrs. Menges has created and procured more than 40 raffles in addition to securing sponsorships from generous Garden City families, individuals and businesses. She is an amazing woman who has worked tirelessly since her son’s passing to carry on his mission to help adolescent and young adult cancer patients. You will be inspired by her, our Challenger team and their teacher/coach (Mrs. Marilyn Going), the Miracle Club members and our students.
