About:
In a powerful display of purpose and community, the Victor Blue Devils and Pittsford came together this April to host an Autism Awareness Flag Football Game—turning competition into compassion and meaningful impact.
Led by coaches Frederick Finter and Brian Tripp, both of whom work closely with special education students in their schools, the initiative was rooted in a shared commitment to inclusion and connection. With April recognized as Autism Awareness Month, the game provided the perfect opportunity to shine a spotlight on a cause that impacts so many families.
More than just a game, the event united student-athletes, families, and fans around a meaningful mission—supporting Autism Up, a nonprofit serving more than 4,000 families across the Greater Rochester area. Through programs focused on building independence, life skills, and community connection, Autism Up plays a vital role in helping individuals with autism spectrum disorder thrive.
The teams sold tickets and partnered with the ScoopUp Ice Cream Truck, with all proceeds going directly to Autism Up. Through these combined efforts, the event raised over $500, each dollar contributing to programs that strengthen families and promote a more inclusive community.
One of the most impactful moments of the day came before kickoff. Each team selected an honorary captain—a student with autism from their respective school—to join them for the coin toss ceremony. As these students were recognized in front of the crowd, it served as a powerful reminder of what true inclusion looks like in action.
Through this initiative, Victor and Pittsford athletes demonstrated that sports can be a platform for something far greater than the final score. They used their voices, visibility, and teamwork to raise awareness, foster inclusion, and make a meaningful difference in others’ lives.
With plans already in motion to continue the tradition next season, this event stands as a shining example of how student-athletes can lead with purpose—creating lasting impact both on and off the field.
